I haven’t written much about the sequel to Headless here. In fact, I think the only thing I’ve mentioned is that I am writing one. I actually haven’t told ANYONE what it’s about yet. Not even my wife. Not even my brother. Both of whom I share just about everything with.
I decided to keep it secret because I want to see how they respond to it knowing nothing but the events in Headless going in.
I am nervous about it. But excited. I’ve really been enjoying writing this story, and I’m looking forward to sharing it.
All I can say so far, is that Akio and Masami get another assignment that takes them back to Kofu. Some other familiar characters return. A new adventure is had, and new, unexpected challenges are tackled with varying degrees of success. Their world is expanding dramatically.
There are scary bits, thoughtful bits, action bits, and a little humor as before.
This book will be longer, without a doubt. I’m rolling around the idea of splitting it in two, but until I have a solid first draft (getting closer every day), I can’t make that decision. If it gets to George R.R. Martin lengths, I’ll definitely split it. I’m not even close to there yet, but with the way it’s going, you never know.
Other than that, I am recording the audiobook of Headless, which should be out sometime in November. I am working on my children’s picture book with an illustrator, and loving the illustrations. I’m very excited to share that with you too. No release date scheduled yet, but soon soon soon.
My profile was posted on Derek Sivers‘ nownownow.com, which is fun and has a little questionnaire I had to answer. It links back to my own Now page, which I started this month (and journaled about here).
OH, and I updated my banner to have my name in katakana below it. Hope you like it. I know it’s probably silly to native Japanese speakers, but I just love the way the characters look.
That is all I can think of at the moment. If you know anyone who needs a Halloween gift, a story that’s not too scary, but has demons and sword fights in it, I know this book…
Speaking of… do you like dressing up for Halloween? I do, but I don’t know what I’ll be yet. What are you planning to be this year? I’d love to know in the comments.
Happy Scary.

Thanks! I’ll have that first draft by year’s end. Out into the world sometime next year, hopefully earlier than later!
