This is a hard post for me to write.
But I’m canceling my cover reveal.
For now.
The covers I had prepped to show you just aren’t up to par.
It’s my own work, so I didn’t see it until I got some professional feedback.
It was hard to take, but the fact is they aren’t good enough, nor are they right for the genre.
I was pretty crushed to realize this, but ultimately it’s for the best. I got some good advice about where to find an artist who can do quality, genre-appropriate covers for me.
I don’t know if I’ll be happy with them, because I don’t like a lot of covers I see for urban fantasy or supernatural thriller, which I think are the closest genres to what this series is. But I have to accept that the cover needs to market the book, not please my artistic sensibilities.
So, while I had a difficult day yesterday, at points wanting to throw in the towel completely, I have bounced back. I realize that I need to spend more money and hire someone who is an actual book cover artist.
I can’t cheap out by hiring discount artists on Fiverr and hoping they understand how to make a book cover. And I can’t put in hours and hours of my own time to come up with something that ultimately isn’t any better.
My time needs to be spent writing.
I’ll let the cover artists make the covers.
